Status
- COMEX Authorization obtained on June 06, 2022.
- Power Purchase Agreement with Hydro-Quebec obtained on July 26, 2023.
- The Quebec Minister des Ressources naturelles et Forest issued on July 2023, a construction permit ( Permit #: 3031493) to build a class 5 temporary road of 2.1km to be able to access the turbine sites and finalize all civil engineering studies.
- Monitoring and Consultation committee formed September 2023
- Construction to begin next Summer 2024 – 2026
- A training program will be proposed to form local assistants to support the wind energy technicians in their operation and maintenance activities of the wind park. The first phase of the training will be open to 16 to 20 Crees and Inuit to assess their capacities in these tasks. The second and third phases will seek to train two to four assistant technicians to work on the turbines.
- A progress update was conducted at the General Assembly on August 2023 at the Whapmagoostui Gymnasium.
- Letter of Request was submitted to the Environment Administrator on January 28, 2022, requesting for the right of superficies for the turbine lots that will require a community referendum. Letter to Chief and Council on June 14, 2023, and update on October 18, 2023.
- Council Resolution # 2020-2021-12-09: Subject Public Consultation Process RE: Whapmagoostui-Kuujjuaraapik Hybrid Power Plant Project (WKHPPP) “is hereby mandated to assist KWREC in relaying all pertinent information to the WFN members in view to promote the acquisition of all permits and authorizations required for the project;”
